Ewww…Ps Julie Khoo ate a crawly squiggly worm!

The Glad Tidings Youth Church (GTYC) had the “Fear is NOT a Factor” Rally last nite. It was an amazing day, they started at 2.30pm yesterday with 10 groups of 8 young people in each group competing for the Fear is NOT a Factor Medals.

Amazing stories, they had to drink a concoction of this pungent smelling fruit called the Nuri Fruit (which apparently smelt like horrible cheese and urine altogether!), and there was a “Stick your hand in a box of live Frogs to remove a Key”, and in another event where “frogs” were also used, they had to help the Frogs cross over the finishing line from Point A to Point B. Each group had to encourage the Frogs to jump by hitting the ground behind the frogs… in on instance, one group found out that it was a Fear Factor Frog competition, cos one of the Frogs which was encouraged to leap ahead was so afraid, just turned over in fear and died! Aiyoh … poor frog!

Anyway, the afternoon led up to the evening, where the GTYC youth band brought up some delightful songs in concertish style … and that lead to Ps Julie Khoo sharing a message to the young people on “Fear is NOT a Factor”.

Ps Julie Khoo (or PJK) as we commonly know her started her session by asking who was afraid of Worms, Crickets, Cockcroaches and Frogs. She managed to find the four volunteers who were each fearful of the items above. Angeline Teh was afraid of worms, Joshua Ang was afraid of Crickets, Charisse Tay was afraid of roaches and this guy called Sean was afraid of frogs. Ps Julie told them in order for you to overcome your fears, you need to face your fears head on, and to overcome them!

And unbeknown to them, a team set up a table on the stage with transparent containers filled individually with Worms, Crickets, Cockcroaches and Frogs and each of the four had to learn to “face their fears”!! hehehe. It was an interesting site, as Sean who was afraid of frogs managed to pick up the frog, and even place the frog on his head! 🙂 YAY!!!!!! Fear is NOT a Factor!

One of the exciting moments during the roaches show, Ps Julie picked up a couple of Roaches from the container, and threw them out at the audience. You should have seen and heard the shreiks, and screams and yells and crowd movement to get out of the way! 🙂 pretty funny! Only to find out later, they were all plastic roaches that Ps Julie bought for 30 cents each! 🙂

Well to come to the highlight of the nite, Ps Julie then informed us that she overcame fears of all these creatures a long time ago. She then showed a video of her and a team that was in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah a month ago. In the Video, there was an Orange/grey/black worm that was crawling on Ps Julie’s hand. It even looked furry .. and sort of cute too! So Ps Julie was talking to the locals (kadazans) about the worms, and she picked up the worm and slurped the worm in her mouth and pulled out the worm – still alive! Ewwwwwwwwww!!!!

Ps Julie .. slurped it two more times. Comments came in the background – “Is Ps Julie trying to drown the worm with saliva?” … ewwwwww! And then one of the locals told her that it would be better if she bit just beneath the head of the worm and don’t eat the head, And in one go, Ps Julie put the whole squiggly crawly worm in her mouth, bit the head off and chewed and chewed and swallowed it all! Super Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!

Everyone in the Fear is NOT a Factor rally screamed and yelled at the same time! Wow!! It was an amazing sight!! So better make sure you are in church if Ps Julie shows that video again. Its a sight not to be missed!!

Ps Julie Khoo shared a five pointer on how to overcome the fears that young people would go thru in their lives… Many young people were ministred last nite and responded to the altar call, and we even had two young people accepting Christ at the end!

Fear is definitely NOT a Factor for many young people last nite and most definitely its not a Factor for Ps Julie Khoo. 🙂 Yay our pastor is a brave pastor!

[p/s Will try and get some pics & video to add on to this post!!! 😉 I’m sure the graphical representation will help you enjoy it more than the text description above.]
